Consider Yourself.

My trains of thought can haunt me for days.

I haven’t seen the musical Oliver since I was a single digit age, yet this morning while walking the dog, “Consider Yourself” was trapped in my head. I blame NPR. There was no mention of the classic film/play/novel, but instead they were talking about male singers with high singing voices, falsettos, sopranos, etc, and the sexual turn ons they induce with women, apparently.

This brought me back 17 or 18 years ago when I was auditioning for the Middle School play, and the song I decided to sing was “Consider Yourself” from the aforementioned musical. At the last minute I decided to sing at a higher octave than I had originally intended, and what came out was a nervous, high pitched display that will probably go down as one of the more embarrassing moments of my life, which, considering the last 18 or so years (college, puberty, etc.) isn’t high on the list.

Needless to say the only part I got was as a chorus member, as did most everyone, and I had no speaking lines or solos, I was lucky enough to get to wear a costume.

And the women never came to swoon in my direction, but many years later the gentlemen did.
